When you see an on/off switch, as shown in Figure 1, what do you think the image represents? Look carefully, and you will notice two things: a ‘one’ and a ‘zero’. When it comes to computer systems, these are the only two pieces of data that they can understand – ones and zeros. Pictures, documents, websites, audio, video and even apps; all of these digital artefacts are made up of the same ingredients, ones and zeros.
